Adult Day Services
Woodhaven’s Adult Day Service is the only program of its kind in all of Michigan. Since 1991, we’ve been open every single day to serve the needs of our client families, and to provide outstanding elderly care in Livonia and the Detroit area.
The local Area Agency on Aging has recognized Woodhaven as a significant resource for older adults in Western Wayne County, and has directed Older Americans Act funding to our program.
Many of our adult day participants who were reluctant to live in a retirement community have become so comfortable and adjusted to the day care program, they eventually choose to become permanent residents in our Independent or Assisted Living facilities. It is a wonderful thing to see people make a smooth transition from living alone and isolated to becoming part of a larger community and living together among their peers.
Our senior center services Detroit, Bay City, Livonia, and the surrounding Michigan area Woodhaven’s adult day participants are provided:
- Three hot meals
- Professional care oversight
- A variety of activities and outings
- Opportunity for social interactions
We safely host seniors who tend to walk away in a sprawling, yet totally secured, area with access to the wooded outdoors.
Please call Woodhaven’s Director of Life Enrichment, Julie Darocha at (734) 261-9000 with any questions you might have about how Adult Day Services at Woodhaven could be a benefit to your family!
Woodhaven cordially invites all interested family members and their older loved ones to be our guests for a complimentary hot lunch on the day of the tour. No one should have to worry about leaving an older loved one at home alone. May we be part of the solution?

Free adult services for most western Wayne County Seniors
With Older Americans Act funding, most, if not all, of Western Wayne County seniors receive services but don’t pay anything for adult day services that Woodhaven provides. Government funding is continually shifting towards home and community-based care. With many seniors living on a fixed income, adult services save money and are more in line with what many seniors want.
Woodhaven receives a fixed amount of funding from the Older Americans Act each year. The funds are then equitably distributed among all current adult day participants. For services needed above and beyond those covered by the funding, clients pay just $10 per hour. This rate covers:
- All meals
- All Activities
- Supervision
- Medication administration
Flexible drop-off hours are provided to help working families.
We recognize that seniors on a fixed income need to be both safe and stimulated while their primary caregiving families attend to the rest of their responsibilities. The program is open from 5:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. and does not require any advance scheduling.
Once admitted to the program, seniors can come and go as they please. Family members can drop their parents off on the way to work and pick them up on the way back home.
Participants can come for a couple of hours while their caregiver is out taking care of business or for the entire 18-hour day, although a day this long should only be used sparingly. This flexibility has also “saved the day” on many occasions, when a family had something come up and care for a senior family member was needed immediately.
